Super Phantom Cat Review

I am a strong believer that mobile gaming is just as involved and engaging as console/PC gaming. And games like Super Phantom Cat prove my point.

A few weeks a go we found out about Super Phantom Cat. An iOS game where players take on the role of Chemist White and embark on an action-packed journey through the Phantom World.

Developed by Veewo and released on Jan 25, Super Phantom Cat is holding steady with their 5 star review in the app store. Veewo is a small team devoted to making creative, beautiful games. The studio’s vision is to offer players stylized experiences that are perfectly matched to original gameplay. You can check out more about them and the different games they have developed here.

Storyline

While Super Phantom Cat is a really easy game to pick up, learn and play .. there is a storyline behind all it’s cuteness. When White was a small child, he was saved by Super Phantom Cat — who then became his personal hero. Years later, Flash Cat takes Chemist White on a journey to the Phantom World; there, Chemist White discovers he can collect data shards and change into a number of characters — including the all-powerful Super Phantom Cat 🙂

Gameplay/Controls

The gameplay and controls of the game are actually pretty straight forward and easy. I even did a quick run through video of my first experience with the game. It is crude and rugged, this is not me showing off my gaming skills at all but just a sneak peak at what the game offers. As with most mobile games you are given some on screen taps or pushes to move your character along. On the bottom left portion of the screen lies the controls the move the character left and right. On the bottom right portion of the screen is a jump bottom. As you progress through the game you open up more options with their own unique buttons, like shooting projectiles at enemies or blocks to keep progressing forward.

Also in the video above you may notice at the end I show off some of the games more unique configurations. At least new to me, you are given the option of customizing your button layout. For instance you can change the size and location of the control buttons if you like. Some people have bigger fingers and need more coverage, while others may not want to clutter up the screen. You can also change the mechanics of the game completed from tap controls to gesture, allowing you to swipe your finger in directions, left, right and even up in order to move your character around if that is what you are more comfortable with.

You will use the skills you learn to complete challenges that will make any platforming fan jump for joy. As the game progresses you will discover that it isn’t as easy as you imagined and that you will need quick reflexes as you pull off incredible feats such as bouncing on a monster’s head to land on a difficult-to-reach platform or rapidly jumping between small platforms to get across a massive chasm. In some instances you will need to be inch-perfect if you want to make it to the end.

Lucky for you, Sprites have also been scattered across the Phantom World — giving you access to special super powers: Smash through layers of bricks using the Smash Sprite; shoot monsters in the face with Bullet Sprite; teleport through walls with the Teleport Sprite; and many more. Every Sprite plays a critical role in helping you make it to the end of each level safely. Who knows? You might even bust open the right block and discover a secret passage that hides a rare star…

Graphics/Sounds

This colorful experience was not only fun but great to look at also. The bright vibrant colors and fun characters bad this game very enjoyable. The music as well was very fitting for the atmosphere that the developers created.

Replayability

Fun! Super Phantom Cat proves to be really fun and entertaining. To the point where I found myself actually going back and repeating past levels just to see if I could do it fast. It is not often that I find a game that isn’t like Solitaire or Sudoko that I found myself going to again and again, but this just happens to be one of them.

Recommendation

For the low price of $1.99, this mobile platformer is a really good find that promises and delivers hours of fun. We certainly recommend that you add this to your game collection.
