Making my way up in the world with this sticky footed little furball with 4 legs and a big heart in Clumzee.
We were recently introduced to a new mobile vertical scrolling adventure called Clumzee. Clumzee is a vertical scrolling mobile game with a great story and loads of challenges and customization.
Clumzee was created by Triple Hill which was founded in January 2015 by three friends who previously worked with financial software for big investment banks, avionic test systems, and web authoring. However, the founders’ true passion lay elsewhere: making the very games they wanted to play — so they abandoned all those “adult” enterprises to pursue the dream of game development.
Here is the story of our lead furball Jimmy, otherwise known as Clumzee.
Little is known about small furry spider-like creatures called a Furballs. They hide in old buildings and deep forests, living comfortable life. They are fast and quite skillful in the art of the climb. Jimmy is one of them, although he’s rather unhappy. Always considered to be clumsy by his kin. They started to call him Clumzee. To prove everyone wrong (and to get some respect), he decided to go where no Furball had ever gone before – through a dense forest, freezing winter, and even a spooky cemetery… all to complete a dreaded path that no one has ever attempted. Nobody knows what is at the end of the path – but the rumor is that there is a great treasure waiting there. Clumzee needs to overcome many dangerous obstacles and run from horrible monsters – trying to eat anyone who dares to enter their world. Will he ever succeed in his quest?
The gameplay and controls of this mobile game are fairly simple. The objective is to keep Clumzee moving up and up without falling back down or encountering various harmful obstacles along the way. You will need to touch the screen to move each one of Clumzee’s limbs in the desired direction in order to reach another platform and grab on. In doing so you will be able to cross paths with some coins and other goodies along the way. Coins which later can be used to unlock other goodies like more playable characters and locations. Continuing this mentioned of reaching platforms, outsmarting the monster’s minions, and dodging projectiles such as cannon fire and buzzsaws you can progress higher and higher, collecting more coins along the way and unlocking more goodies.
This video here is just a quick look at the start of the game that shows the story of Clumzee, a quick play through of one of the early stages and a look at the user interface available.
Now my feedback regarding the controls is that occasionally I felt that Clumzee was not responding to my screen taps. Wasn’t sure if it was my device so I tried with alternate devices but had the same result. There were also times when I felt that his legs just weren’t extending that long while other times they practically went all the way across the screen. Not sure if it was me, or the type of platforms I was reaching for changed the chances of him reaching there at greater distances.
Visually Clumzee has very stunning and colorful graphics. The graphics are bright and each of the characters including the occasional bad guy impeding on your progress are very detailed and fun to watch. Outside of the characters are the environments you come across. Clumzee includes eight thematic worlds and each of these different worlds grant you a unique ability to use on the board to help you get higher. Here is a breakdown of the different world/ability combinations.
— Factory: Use a magnet to collect coins from afar.
— Space: Take off on a jetpack!
— Canyon: Trigger an avalanche to destroy all visible minions.
— Forest: Grow one leg back!
— Candyland: Can you find the mystery gift?
— Winter: Summon a freezing storm to slow time down.
— Castle: Destroy traps with powerful gloves.
— Spooky: Become an (almost) invulnerable ghost! Don’t drop too low, though: The monster can still reach out and eat you…
Collecting coins as you go up is a perk. Not necessary for your progress but helps with your score and coin collection. You can use the coins collected to unlock more worlds to play on.
In addition to the coin collect there are also scattered randomly around the board some fire fires. These fire flies aren’t just there for adorable looks. If you manage to gather enough magic fireflies, you will be able to unlock more than 30 more charming characters ranging from vikings to wizards.
The joy of this game is it’s default replayability quality. The game is designed in a way that encourages you to keep returning and challenging yourself. Not only are you encouraged to keep going in order to unlock all possible characters and stages, you also are pushed to try and beat your own personal progress and achievements.
This is a great mobile game to add to your collection. One that you can hold on to and play frequently. It is a great challenge for adults and even fun for younger gamers to play and enjoy themselves. My children really enjoyed watching his little arms stretch so long to get higher and higher on the board. They also enjoyed watching when Clumzee fell to far down and got eaten though soooooo … not sure if that says much, but the point is they were having fun. If you want to check it out, Clumzee if available now on the App Store and Google Play, and is free to download and play. There are some in-app purchases that are possible for more fireflies that allow you to unlock more things faster. But not necessary.
Check it out, let us know what you think and how far you can climb.
