Ubisoft has finally released the official trailer for the next installment of the AC series titled Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. The trailer can be viewed below, but first, here is the official overview of the game:
The year is 1715. Pirates rule the Caribbean and have established their own lawless Republic. Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag introduces Edward Kenway, a brash rebel Pirate Assassin. His fight for glory has earned him the respect of legends like Blackbeard, but also drawn him into the ancient war between Assassins and Templars, a war that may destroy everything the pirates have built. Take part in an incredible and seamless adventure. Discover the most diverse Assassin’s Creed world ever created. From Kingston to Nassau, explore 50 unique locations where you can live the life of a pirate. Become one of the most feared pirates in the West Indies. Stand amongst legendary names as you establish a lawless Republic in the Bahamas and relive the truly explosive events that defined the Golden Age of Piracy.
Now, as I read that overview and viewed the trailer, a few thoughts (4 to be exact) came to mind that I would like to share with our readers.
1. My level of excitement after viewing the trailer was minimal at best. It looks nice, and the duel wielded guns and swords will serve as a welcomed addition, but overall, my excitement meter barely registered, not even close to where it landed when I first saw Assassin Creed 3 trailers.
2. Another one? So soon? Listen, you cant find a bigger AC fan than the author of this article, but even I’m saying, ok, enough is enough, slow down. We barely got our feet wet on Assassin’s Creed 3. I still need to go back and achieve my 100% synch. Some gamers have yet to even finish AC3. I mean, come on Ubisoft, do you really want to go the route of Call of Duty and start releasing the very same game year after year with only a few minor tweaks. Oh, wait, of course you do, because idiots like me will continue to buy them.
3. Oh God, based on the trailer and setting of this game alone, I’m already preparing myself for more naval battles. *Yawn*. Listen, the naval battles were cool in AC3, and I enjoyed them. But at the same time, that doesn’t mean I want to see them again in the next installment. Been there, done that, bought the t-shirt. What else you got?
4. On what gaming console will I be playing Black Flag? I honestly cannot answer that at the moment, all I know is that it will NOT be the WiiU. After you pick up your jaw, you can hear out the reasons of this #1 Nintendo freak. For one, I love my achievements and trophies that are offered by Sony and Microsoft, and CG’s disdain over Nintendo’s lack of achievements have already been well documented. Playing AC3 on the WiiU felt empty without being rewarded for my gameplay. Especially after earning all achievement points on the previous installments. Secondly, the use of the gamepad for AC3 was POINTLESS. Ubisoft, you did well with the gamepad use for ZombiU. But for AC3? A map and off-TV play? That’s it? You gotta do better than that. So for me, my purchasing decision will boil down to Microsoft vs. Sony and current gen vs. next gen.
